Host Question:
Are you happy with your choice to work in the agriculture and forestry industry?

Guest Answer:
Absolutely love it. I love what I do. There’s nowhere else I’d rather be.

Guest Answer:
Yes, I am. It didn’t end up like I said. I thought at first I thought I was going to be a veterinarian. Then I thought I was going to be a wildlife biologist or maybe the park Ranger. I know that once I get above kind of the ground level of doing firefighting, eventually I want to move on to the natural resource benefit side of fire, knowing that I can combine my education with the practical aspects I’ve learned and combine that to hopefully give me a job where I’m more in the decision making process in the future. And that’s kind of getting more of that bird’s eye view is something that I’m really glad I decided to go with. Not to mention the people I work with are some of the greatest people ever. so that really makes up for it when you’re not having the greatest day or assignment at work ever, but knowing that everyone’s right there with you.

Guest Answer:
I appreciated just how interdisciplinary the field is, but I’m very happy where I ended up as far as who I’m working with, where in the country I got to live and where I got to work.

Guest Answer:
Honestly, if you asked me that question two, three years ago, I would say no. I was in consulting, which is it’s hard. Consulting is very hard. I gained a lot of knowledge. I gave a lot of experience. I think it’s good for young people to get into that because you build a lot experience very quickly. But it’s challenging, to be honest. The pay for me and where I was at was not great. Where I am now, it’s paid dividends. It’s huge. I’m in a much better position. So happy. Yes, now.

Guest Answer:
For example, like Yellowstone being very popular right now, a lot of people want to go into farming and ranching because looks cool and they think they can make money. If you have a love for it, you’ll love doing it. I’d rather be outside working than being inside. Not everybody’s that way. So that’s one thing I would say. Don’t look at the money. Know to love to do it before you decide to pursue that. I am definitely happy. It led me on a journey where I met so many different people. I learned so many different aspects about environmental management. It’s just been an amazing journey.
