What Was The Best Part Of Your Forestry Degree Program?

What was your favorite class or maybe the best part of your educational experience? In my opinion, making the connections, meeting the people, really being able to network is the best part about this job. There’s a lot of overlap as far as the agriculture community is or industry is concerned. And so. Being able to know somebody that’s an actor will help you to know somebody that’s in forestry, meets science falls into that. There’s lots of overlap. We all in the agriculture industry need each other. And so if we can stay focused on that and stick together. That’s my favorite part. It’s truly its own community. My favorite class was constitutional law. And honestly, looking back now, I didn’t realize it at the time, but they actually set me up way better for my current career because I learned how to articulate law. I learned how to create argument, how to reference. Hey, no, this is the law. Here is how we go through that. It taught me a lot more logic and reason than a lot of other classes I took, and that’s the biggest thing I would advise anybody. Like look outside the box, look for something that kind of related, kind of not. That’s probably your sweet spot to confuse them on Indigenous people and the environment. It was just amazing how much I learned about Native Americans and how they view the environment badly. Like I learned about Native Americans in school when I was a kid, but nothing like what I learned in that class. And it was amazing. It was eye opening. Yeah, that was just an amazing part of my degree. And another amazing part is just all the people I met throughout my degree, my professors, and all my fellow classmates. It was just an amazing journey. My favorite part of the program was making connections to my professors. And that sounds pretty nerdy because I was an unconventional student. I got lucky and had an advisor that he was also an unconventional student while he was receiving his bachelor’s. While as a student, I got to become close to him and he helped me get a job working for extension, working in the agricultural economics department, which has led me to the path that I have now. That was honestly my favorite part because I became close to my advisor. I made numerous connections through my college agriculture and then my department. That’s hard to decide in terms of class, and I really like to feel me. I also really loved ornithology, so that was my bird ID course. That that was my second semester senior class. We would go on lots of hikes and identify birds based on their songs, which was sort of nerve racking out outdoors because the state where I went to school like tons of mockingbirds around, so I was like, I could be hearing anything. Those are some fun classes as well as field zoology. That was pretty cool. Got to do a lot of in the field animal identification and some really cool projects. But I think the best part was my advisor, my academic advisor, he’s actually a wildlife biologist before he became a professor and I went to a very small school. So I was one of the only people in my grade that didn’t actually want to go to medical school. And basically he was so excited. There was someone that kind of wanted to pursue the same path. He had so really poured into me in terms of giving me resources like job boards, helping me prepare for interviews for summer jobs, being willing to be a reference for me. And he gave me a lot of confidence about what I was pursuing. So I think that really helped me.
